Sikkim:
In March of last year, Sikkim has banned entry to foreigners in response to the emergence of Covid-19-related cases in India. It was also among the states that announced an early ban on the threshold of foreigners into the state last year.
Sikkim has partially lifted the entry restrictions for foreign nationals and instead made it obligatory for them to have a negative RT-PCR report before admission to the country.
The eastern state shares boundaries that connect it to Nepal, Bhutan, and China. The ban was put in place on the last day of the week because of the possibility of the Omicron variant of the Sars-Cov-2 virus.
“All foreigners including those from Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh who are already in India for more than ten days and are traveling to Sikkim shall be permitted to enter the state provided they produce a negative RT-PCR test report conducted within 72 hours of their entry to the state,” was the order signed to SC Gupta, chief secretary of Sikkim.
Sikkim has banned entry for foreign nationals in March of the previous year in response to the emergence of cases of Covid-19 in India. It was also among the states that announced an earlier ban on admitting persons from outside the state in the last year.
The four-day Sikkim Global Film Festival, scheduled to start on the 10th of December in Gangtok, has been canceled.
The state has reported 405 deaths attributed in part to Covid 19. There are also 32,382 positively confirmed cases, and 31,438 were recovered.
Eight Covid-19 cases were disclosed on Tuesday, in addition to 24 recovery cases.
The Centre has classified European countries, such as the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel as “at-risk” since the Omicron variant is thought to be spreading into these countries first.
