Sonam Wangchuck Made a Solar Heated Military Tent for Indian Army

Sonam Wangchuk, an engineer, educator, and innovator from Ladakh, said on Twitter that her team had built a solar heat tent that would be beneficial to the bone-chilling cold and high altitude Indian troops in Ladakh. Sonam tweeted that when the outside temperature is minus 14 degrees Celsius, the inside temperature of the tent will be 15 degrees or so. Not only that, according to Sonam, no fuel is required for this tent, this tent is environmentally friendly.

This tent made by Sonam’s team is the second version of the previous tent. Sonam made a tent-like this 10 years ago. Sonam built a prototype a decade ago to comfort Ladakh residents during the winter season. Sonam said the government had distributed cloth tents instead of my tent, and the government’s decision was wrong. This time Sonam and her team have built this new tent for Indian soldiers.

A large number of Indian troops have been deployed in Ladakh due to border disputes with China. And those guys use kerosene oil as fuel to keep themselves warm in the bone-chilling winter. Consumption of so much kerosene oil increases the cost to the government and pollutes the environment. The jawans also become physically weak and there is a risk of fire. And that’s why Sonam Wangchuck has built this new tent.

The most important thing about this solar-heated tent is that it is portable and you can take it wherever you want. Sonam Wangchuck did not want to say what materials she used to make the tent. But he says the way solar houses are built, the tent is based on the same scientific principles.
