MK Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, asked Thursday for permission from the centre to reach out to Tamils living in Sri Lanka. This is despite the country’s severe economic crisis.
Tamil Nadu would like to send medicines and essential commodities to Tamils in the eastern and northern parts of Sri Lanka.
“The union government must allow us to assist Lankan Tamils in economic distress.” The Prime Minister listened patiently and assured us that he would act on our demands. “I thank him for his assurance,” Mr Stalin stated.

Stalin stated that the PM had assured him that appropriate action would be taken to address the issues raised.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister made 14 requests to the central government. These included rejecting Karnataka’s Makedatu Reservoir Project across the river Cauvery, exempting Tamil Nadu (NEET) from the medical entrance exam, continuing GST compensation, and sharing the cess.
The DMK chief is currently aspiring for a national role as he champions the cause of federalism and social justice. After the Congress’ recent election debacle, the party’s Delhi office will be inaugurated on Friday. It will also include opposition leaders Mamata Banerjee and Sonia Gandhi.

With three consecutive victories in the polls, Stalin has emerged as a mass leader and is now aiming for a national position.
Many believe that the biggest challenge would be to unify the opposition before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
