Student sets fire to German university that killed One person. 

An 18-year-old student in biology shot himself in a lecture hall at Heidelberg University in Germany on Monday, killing another student injuring three others before committing suicide, authorities said.

Mannheim, the police head Siegfried Kollmar said the gunman was found to have 100 extra bullets in his bag. 

It was unclear what had caused him to stop shooting, but police were sure that he was acting in a solo manner.

The police have searched his house in Mannheim in southwestern Germany. However, according to a state prosecutor in the same press conference, it was too early to determine any motive.

The shooter bought two guns that included the double-barrelled shotgun but was not carrying the required license, Kollmar said.

“The suspect had no driving license. The suspect had no gun license. This makes him a very unusual case,” Kollmar stated while confirming his status as in the course of study.

The prosecutor stated that the suspect did not have a previous criminal conviction in Germany.

Four German students were injured during the incident, which took place at about midday. 

The victim was 23 years old and passed away due to her injuries. Secretary of state for the interior of Baden-Wuerttemberg Thomas Strobl told the press conference.

The three other victims sustained only a minor injury, Strobl stated.

The police chief claimed that 29 people inside the lecture hall said to officers, “only one person went in, shot and went out, and no one else was seen.”

A police spokesperson told Reuters earlier in the day that the suspect could escape the lecture hall before taking his gun and shooting himself.
