Supreme Court adjourns guilty plea seeking additional opportunities for candidates who exhausted latest JEE Advanced attempt

The Supreme Court on Monday postponed a petition seeking additional opportunity for candidates who had exhausted their last attempt at JEE Advanced 2020. The guilty plea was filed by students who had faced difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic. Attorney Mathews J. Nedumpara in court said today that an additional opportunity was required as only two opportunities were given for JEE and because the coronavirus pandemic had also affected the candidates’ studies.

The matter was heard by a court headed by Judge AM Khanwilkar, who proceeded to order the petitioner’s lawyer to await the reserved trial in the matter.

However, the Court was not inclined to hear the matter and informed Nedum that the principle that applies in the UPSC case would also apply here.

Consequently, the Court ordered Nedum to await judgment in the UPSC case.

Previously, on February 9, the court had reserved the judgment on the petition seeking an additional opportunity for those candidates who had exhausted their last attempt at the Civil Service Exam held in October 2020.

The court had heard presentations from lead attorneys Shyam Divan, Pallav Shishodia, ASG SV Raju and others in the case.
