Supreme Court-appointed panel on farm laws submits report

The committee appointed by the Supreme Court to study the three controversial new farm laws submitted its report to the high court on March 19 in a sealed cover, one of its members said Wednesday.

Farmers have been protesting seeking the repeal of the three controversial farm laws on the New Delhi borders for the past five months. The Supreme Court, on January 11, suspended the implementation of the three laws until further orders and appointed a four-member panel to resolve the deadlock.

The committee was given two months to study the laws and consult with all interested parties.

“We delivered the report on March 19 in a sealed cover. Now the court will decide the future course of action, ”one of the committee members, PK Mishra, told PTI.

According to the committee’s official website, the panel conducted a total of 12 rounds of consultations with various stakeholders, including farmer groups, farmer and producer organizations (OPF), procurement agencies, professionals, academics, and marketing boards. private and state farms.

The panel also held nine internal meetings before finalizing the report.

In addition to Mishra, Shetkari Sanghatana Chairman Anil Ghanwat and Agricultural Economist and former Chairman of the Commission on Agricultural Prices and Costs (CACP) Ashok Gulati are other members of the panel.

However, the fourth member, the president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, Bhupinder Singh Mann, had withdrawn from the committee before the work began.
