The city of Surat, which has witnessed an increase in Covid-19 cases over the past week, will obtain two new 1,000-bed COVID care facilities at the Chamber of Commerce Cum Exhibition International Convention Center e Industria del Sur de Gujarat (SGCCI) and a community room of the Municipal Corporation of Surat (SMC) in one week.
SMC authorities, along with administrative officials from the Surat district, visited the Cum Exhibition International Convention Center in Sarsana on June 12 and began work to obtain authorizations for a COVID call center at its facilities. The showroom, Platinum, and the six-story association building will be used to establish the facilities equipped with oxygen lines, the work of which began on Tuesday.
Discussions with SMC and district administration were ongoing from the first week of June and it was decided to develop a Covid-19 call center at the three SGCCI facilities in Sarsana. We are pleased to be able to offer a helping hand to the municipal corporation in such a critical period, “said SGCCI President Ketan Desai.
SMC Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani said: “The Sarsana Covid-19 center will have facilities, including oxygen lines, ventilators, and BiPap. The state government will provide medical equipment and personnel. The Sarsana Covid center will have 826 beds, while at the Althan community center, we will have a facility with 182 beds. This is our preparation for the coming days. ”
To date, the city of Surat has registered 4,530 positive cases and more than 165 deaths, while 2,822 patients fully recovered and were discharged. Currently, Covid-19 patients are being treated at New Civil Hospital, SMIMER Hospital, Covid-19 Center in Samras at the university and 10 private hospitals. All these premises have around 2,000 beds. SMC has also signed an agreement with 37 private hospitals where 30 to 50 percent of its beds are reserved for Covid patients.
Majura’s BJP MLA seat, Harsh Sanghavi, is spearheading work to establish the COVID call center in the SMC community room in the Althan area, whose work began on Monday. Sanghvi, along with BJP MP CR Patil, held a meeting with the municipal commissioner and presented the proposal, which was accepted.
Sanghvi told The Indian Express: “First we paint the walls white so that patients can get positive energy. My friends are taking on various responsibilities and it is estimated that the installation will cost around Rs 1 crore. We will also install 20 LED televisions for patients and we will also supply newspapers and magazines. Our goal is to complete work on this facility by July 3.
“We will also build 20 additional bathrooms and 20 bathrooms. We have also received help from a private hospital to supply three critically ill ventilators. Once the installation is ready, we will deliver it to SMC to execute it, “he added.
