Taliban applauds the US decision to ease humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

Taliban applauds the US decision to ease humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

On Friday (December 24, 2021), the Taliban applauded the US efforts to ease the flow of aid to Afghanistan, local media said.

This comes as the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Wednesday (local time) issued three General Licenses to help facilitate the continuous supply of humanitarian aid as well as other assistance to Afghans.

Its Islamic Emirate Deputy Spokesperson, Bilal Karimi, stated that Afghanistan has been through an eternal war for 20 years, requiring more international support, Tolo News reported.

“Afghan people passed through long wars, and drought is another problem ahead of Afghanistan, so we appreciate such a decision,” Karimi said. Karimi.

“The issuance of the three licenses by the US will prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan and show that they (the US) are worried about the situation in the country.

Besides this, the decision shows their engagement with the Islamic Emirate,” Tolo News quoted Shaker Yaqoobi, a renowned university professor, as declaring.

As per the White House statement, General License 17 allows any transactions or activities that associated with the Taliban as well as that of the Haqqani Network that is to conduct the formal business activities of the United States Government through employees as well as grantees and contractors of the latter with certain restrictions.

General License 18 authorizes all transactions and activities that involve the Taliban and Haqqani Network or the Taliban.

Haqqani Network conducts the formal business activities of certain foreign organizations and other international organizations by employees, grantees, and contractors of the latter under certain conditions in the declaration.
