Ponneri is an electoral district of the Assembly / Vidhan Sabha in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. It belongs to the Tiruvallur Lok Sabha constituency.
In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the constituency had a total of 2,50,403 registered voters.

In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly Election, All India’s P Balaraman Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the Ponneri seat. He obtained 95,979 votes, compared to 76,643 votes obtained by his main rival Parimalam from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
In the 2011 elections, Pon Raja of AIADMK had won Ponneri’s seat by beating Manimekala of DMK.
The Ponneri Assembly constituency is expected to go to the polls in April or May 2020, as part of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2020.
Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be held to elect a total of 234 members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
