Tamil Nadu govt imposes restrictions on COVID-19 cases

Chennai, April 08: In an attempt to curb the spread of Covid-19, the Tamil Nadu government has reimposed restrictions on large gatherings of guests for weddings and other events. The restrictions would take effect from April 10.

Here is the complete list of what is allowed and what is not allowed in Tamil Nadu
  • Shopping centers, large format stores to operate at 50% of their capacity until 11 pm
  • Temple festivals and other religious gatherings are prohibited beginning April 10.
  • Ban on the large fruit and vegetable market in the state.
  • Ban on small traders from operating in the Chennai Koyambedu market
  • A maximum of 100 people is allowed at weddings, funerals up to 50.
  • Pools, sports facilities to restrict use to training.
  • Entertainment, amusement parks to restrict capacity to 50%
  • Standing passengers will not be allowed on MTC Chennai buses
  • 50 percent seating will be allowed in hotels, restaurants, and tea shops.
  • Only two passengers can ride automatic rickshaws.
  • The ePass system will continue for those coming from other states.

On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu recorded 3,986 new COVID-19 cases, the highest peak in a single day this year, bringing the overall case count to 9.11,110.

At least 17 people have died due to the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the death count to 12,821.

With 1,824 patients currently recovering, the total number of active Covid cases in the state now stands at 27,743. A total of 8,70,546 people have recovered so far.
