Maharashtra’s governing coalition suffered a significant defeat today, with the BJP capturing the third seat in a direct battle against the Shiv Sena in the state.
With this, the state’s numbers in the six Rajya Sabha seats are divided down the middle, with the BJP gaining three seats and the alliance getting three, which is anticipated to affect the state’s upcoming MLC and municipal elections.
On the sixth seat, the BJP’s Dhananjay Mahadik defeated the Sena’s Sanjay Pawar, with the results coming close to daybreak on Saturday. The BJP received an unexpected 10 votes in the election. To win, a candidate required 41 votes.
Piyush Goyal and Anil Bonde of the BJP, Imran Pratapgarhi of the Congress, Praful Patel of the NCP, and Sanjay Raut of the Sena were among the other victors.
Piyush Goyal and Anil Bonde each received 48 votes. To win, an MLA required 41 votes.
“Elections are fought not simply for the sake of fighting but also for the sake of winning. Maharashtra, Maharashtra, Maharashtra, Maharashtra, Maharashtra, “Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP, whose unwillingness to have consensus candidates for the Rajya Sabha resulted in the state’s first elections in 23 years, tweeted.

“Dhananjay Mahadik received more votes than Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena and beat Sanjay Pawar of the Shiv Sena. The Election Commission will announce tomorrow that one vote has been cancelled. We would have won if he (Sanjay Pawar) had received that vote. We would have won even if Nawab Malik had shown up, “Mr Fadnavis said to reporters.
The governing alliance initially suffered a blow when the court refused to grant bail to imprisoned minister Nawab Malik and former minister Anil Deshmukh in time for the election.
The counting of ballots in the opposition-ruled state began after an eight-hour delay due to BJP and governing coalition tit-for-tat charges of cross-voting and rule violations.
The BJP and the Shiv Sena have already approached the Election Commission, claiming cross-voting and requesting that ballots be disqualified.
The BJP questioned the legitimacy of three governing coalition MLAs’ votes. The Maha Vikas Aghadi attempted to have two votes invalidated, one by a BJP MLA and the other by an independent.
Jitendra Awhad of the NCP, Yashomati Thakur of the Congress, Suhas Kande of the Shiv Sena, Sudhir Mungantiwar of the BJP, and Independent MLA Ravi Rana of the Independent MLA Ravi Rana. All other votes, except Mr Kande’s, were legitimate.
Kande did not display his ballot to anybody else, yet his vote was nevertheless nullified, according to NCP election in-charge Jayant Patil, as reported by Press Trust of India.
