The European Union declines Ukraine's hopes of joining the EU quickly

The European Union declines Ukraine’s hopes of joining the EU quickly.

France: “Unspeakable” suffering inflicted on Ukraine by Russia, EU leaders said on Thursday. At a summit in France, they turned down Ukraine’s request to join the bloc quickly and disagreed over how far sanctions against Russia should go.

This is the biggest attack on a European country since World War II. It has changed Europe’s security order and made EU capitals rethink what the bloc stands for, how it makes money and protects itself from threats.

In the days after Russia attacked Ukraine on Feb. 24, the EU quickly imposed a wide range of sanctions and provided political and humanitarian aid, as well as some arms, to help Ukraine rebuild its country.

However, there have been some splits in the bloc’s united front, from how it responded to Ukraine’s request to join the wealthy club to how quickly it can stop using Russian fossil fuels and how to respond to the economy.

People didn’t just start moving into Europe “overnight,” Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at the end of talks with the leaders of the other 27 countries in the early hours of Friday, when they were still up.

“Ukraine is part of the European family,” said Charles Michel, the group leader.

However, other people made it clear that Ukraine would not join the EU quickly. This is something Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, wants, which has some support from Ukraine’s neighbors on the EU’s eastern border.

The Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, said no “fast-track process.” However, he added that the EU would keep expanding its ties with Kyiv.

He said that the entry door could not be shut.

“A country at war can’t join us, but we can start the process. I think not. No, we can’t. Is it possible to forget about the balance points in that area? We should be careful.”

Suppose you want to join the European Union. In that case, you have to meet a lot of strict rules about everything from economic stability to preventing corruption to respecting liberal human rights.
