The International Cricket Council is expected to finalize the nomination process to elect the replacement for outgoing President Shashank Manohar next week, as he was still trying to reach a consensus on some key issues.

The ICC Board met by video conference on Thursday and the key item on the agenda was whether to adopt a process that selects or elects the new President.

“It was a good discussion about the President’s process among the members. At least I am sure that by next week, we will have finished the whole process, ”an ICC Board member told PTI under conditions of anonymity.

When asked why the nomination process date could not be reset, the member said: “There are still some points that need to be clarified. Hopefully, we will reach a consensus next week.”

The member also said that a decision on postponing the T20 World Cup has been postponed until next month and remains the same.

“We had a lot of administrative problems that were discussed. I am not free to release them, ”said the member.

The ICC Ethics Officer is expected to have updated members on investigations regarding classified email leaks before a meeting last month.

Although the majority of the Board members were not ready to disclose what are the key areas of the difference, it is understood that the main dispute is whether it will be an election or a selection.

Former ECB President Colin Graves and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly are vying for the job, but it is unlikely that either of them will go to the elections. Ganguly’s candidacy is not even confirmed as of now.

But both would prefer to be a unanimous candidate for first place.

Much will depend on whether the Indian Supreme Court gives a hearing date for the Interim Appeal filed by BCCI to ensure that the cooling-off period for Ganguly and Registrar Jay Shah is suspended.
