The Quad nations will focus on the supply chain for clean energy: Australia PM Scott Morrison.
It is expected that the United States, Japan, India, and Australia are working together to enhance their supply chain security that supports critical technologies like clean energy.
And also to alleviate the global shortage of semiconductors, according to Australia’s Premier Secretary Scott Morrison.
The Quad nations, at their first-ever meeting in-person meeting this Friday, in Washington. It came to the formation of a partnership to safeguard vital infrastructure and critical infrastructure.
Morrison told reporters following the meeting that the goal is to connect Australia’s raw mineral resources with manufacturing and processing capabilities.
It is of India, the United States, India, and Japan following the transcript published on Saturday by the government of his country.
Australia is the largest producer of rare earth outside of China and is a significant producer of the minerals used in the batteries of electric vehicles, including copper, nickel, and cobalt.
While the leaders didn’t explicitly refer to China, they consistently demanded rules-based conduct in the region where China is trying to show its strength. Beijing has criticized the group for being “doomed to fail.”
Other Quad leaders expressed their appreciation for the contribution of Australia in providing crucial supplies “because that is a necessary supply for the many industries and processing works that they operate themselves,” Morrison added.
“On critical minerals, Australia is one of the biggest producers, but we believe we can play a bigger role in a critical supply chain that is supporting the technologies of the future.”
Australia is set to host a green energy supply chain summit in the coming year and aims to create the roadmap to build supply chains that are similar to those within the Indo-Pacific region, Morrison said.
Besides, the Quad also deliberated on ways to improve the security of a supply of semiconductors, Morrison said.
