The U.S. says Russia may provide a cover to strike Ukraine. 

Washington/Kyiv: Russia could invade Ukraine at any moment and could create a surprising excuse for an attack, the United States said on Sunday and reiterated its commitment to defend “every millimeter” within NATO territory.

Russia has over 100,000 troops close to Ukraine and is not included in the Atlantic military alliance. 

Washington is keeping in contact with diplomatic avenues which have failed to end the crisis has repeatedly stated that an attack is on the horizon.

Moscow has denied any plans and has claimed that Russia and the West are of “hysteria.”

The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, a trip to Kyiv on Monday, and Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday demanded Russia to ease up its aggression. 

They warned against sanctions if Moscow were to invade.

A German official told the AP that Berlin did not anticipate ” concrete results”; however, diplomacy was crucial.

In Washington, the White House, Vice President Joe Biden’s National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan declared that an attack could be imminent “any day from now.”

“We can’t predict with certainty the future, but we’ve been saying for a while that we’re in the right place,” Sullivan told CNN.

U.S. officials said they could not confirm the claims about U.S. intelligence indicating Russia would be preparing to invade on Wednesday.

Sullivan stated that Washington would continue to share the lessons it has learned to the world to block Moscow from the chance to launch an unexpected “false flag” operation, which could become an excuse to launch an attack.

It also would “defend every square inch NATO territories … as well as Russia we think is fully aware of the idea,” Sullivan added in an additional CBS interview.

Biden talked to the president’s Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy Sunday. 

They discussed the necessity of working towards diplomatic diplomacy and deterrence as a response to Russia’s militarization, The White House said after the conversation.

Zelenskiy’s office confirmed that Biden had invited him for a trip to Ukraine shortly. Biden’s office declined to comment. White House declined to comment.

In the agreement in a U.S. assessment that an invasion could take place “at any time,” a British government spokesperson stated that Britain is in the process of preparing a package of economic and military assistance for Ukraine to be announced in the next few days. 

The Prime of the government, Boris Johnson, will make a trip to Europe in the coming week to help build support to bring the standoff with Russia.

During a telephone phone call this weekend, Biden spoke to Putin that the West would respond swiftly to any threat, and an attack would hurt and even isolate Moscow.
