There has been no rise in human rights violations, says Centre, citing NHRC figures:
The number of human rights violations reported by the NHRC has decreased over the last three years, as per the data provided by Rajya Sabha by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
There is no increase in human rights abuses in the country, as the government informed lawmakers in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
“As per the data made available by the NHRC, no such increase of human rights violations is noticed,” Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai stated in a written response to a query from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP M Shanmugam.
Shanmugam was interested in knowing if the violation of human rights in India grows year on year.
Based on the information shared by the government, according to the data transmitted by the government, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recorded 64,170 instances that involved human rights abuses in the year, as of October 31.
The data indicates a decrease from the total number that have been registered over the past three years. The number of cases reported in 2018 and 2020 is 89,584,76,628 or 74,968 in each case.
The highest proportion of cases reported by the NHRC was filed in Uttar Pradesh, where 41,947 cases were recorded in 2018. 32,693 cases were registered in 2019—30164 in 2020 and 24242 from 2021 until October 31.
NHRC has advised an amount of Rs63.67 crore in monetary aid to victims of rights since the year 2018.
