The dominant cannibal male from the Umred-Paoni-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary has killed another tiger cub, with whom he is now mating.
The T9 tiger, popularly known as Surya, had killed and eaten a 6-7-year-old T1 tiger cub last week. The tigress had three cubs. On Saturday, her second cub was also found dead and eaten.
A press release issued by Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) Field Director Ravikiran Govekar said: “A 6-7-month-old male tiger cub was found dead in… Karhandla’s beating at the Umred Paoni Karhandla sanctuary. Saturday night. It was found that the upper body had been eaten.
It is confirmed to be another T1 tiger cub. The T1 tigress has been seen with the T9 male for the last few days in nearby areas. It is suspected that it is a case of infighting/infanticide” ENS.
