Tiger Woods stated that he would not compete in the US Open at Brookline next week to focus on his rehabilitation from serious leg injuries suffered in a car accident last year.
Last month, the 15-time major winner pulled out of the PGA Championship after the third round. “I already notified (organizers) the USGA that I would not be playing in the @usopengolf because my body needs more time to strengthen for major championship golf,” Woods tweeted, adding that he will still compete in the British Open at St Andrews, which begins on July 14.
“I’m looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible.”
After requiring surgery to fix his right leg after a vehicle accident in February 2021, the 46-year-old made a stunning comeback at the Masters in April.

At Augusta National and the PGA at Southern Hills, he cut withdrawing after the third-worst major round of his career.
Despite a left knee injury, the American has won the US Open three times, the most recent in a playoff at Torrey Pines in 2008.
Woods said he would “be ready to play in Ireland” the week before the British Open at the JP McManus Pro-am.
He has won the Claret Jug twice, in 2000 and 2005, at St Andrews, Scotland.
Woods, who is now ranked 881st globally, won his most recent major championship at the Masters three years ago after having spinal fusion surgery in 2017.
According to US media sources, Woods rejected a substantial offer to join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf International Series, which has its maiden tournament this week in England.
