Today's Assembly Byelection Results: All Eyes on Uttarakhand Chief Minister

Bypolls were conducted earlier this week in three Assembly seats in Uttarakhand, Kerala, and Odisha, and the counting of ballots has begun.

After losing in the state elections earlier this year, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is running for a seat in the Assembly.

Champawat in Uttarakhand, Brajarajnagar in Odisha, and Thrikkakara in Kerala are the three seats that went to elections.

Pushkar Singh Dhami seems to be leading in the Champawat constituency by a large margin. Former BJP MLA Kailash Gehtori resigned from the seat to allow Mr. Dhami to run for the state legislature again.

Mr. Dhami was vigorously campaigned for by the BJP, which Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led.

Mr. Dhami is in a direct fight with Congress’ Nirmala Gehtori for the state’s Kumaon area seat. Manoj Kumar Bhatt of the Samajwadi Party and Himanshu Gadkoti of the Independent Party are the other two candidates.

According to the Kerala Election Commission, the Congress leads in the Thrikkakara Assembly seat. Uma Thomas runs against Dr. Jo Joseph of the CPI(M), a well-known cardiologist. Meanwhile, the BJP has nominated A N Radhakrishnan, a senior politician, for the seat.

The Brajrajnagar assembly segment in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district is holding a by-election.

Even though eleven candidates were running, the seat was dominated by a triangle contest amongst BJD, BJP, and Congress candidates.

The BJD nominated Alaka Mohanty, the dead MLA’s widow, as their candidate, while the BJP chose Radharani Panda, a former lawmaker. Kishore Patel, the former speaker of the Assembly, ran for the by-election on a Congress platform.
