The corps of the transporters threatens a strike; slashed demands on diesel prices, resolution of GST-related issues
Protesting against rising diesel prices and excessive taxes, among other problems, the main body for carriers, AIMTC, said on Sunday it would suspend transportation operations if the government does not address its problems. The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) states that it represents about 95 lakh from truckers and about 50 lakh from tour and bus operators.
“The increase in diesel prices, excessive taxes, problems related to the electronic bill … the current state of the scrapping policy … the rationalization of the presumptive tax were the key issues discussed and deliberate” by the governing council of AIMTC, the body that groups transporters said in a statement.
The national leadership of the AIMTC has decided to issue a 14-day notice to the government to begin the process towards resolving the claims.
The demands include the immediate reduction of diesel prices and the uniformity in the same, the resolution of problems related to the electronic invoice and the GST, and the discussion about the scrapping policy with the transport fraternity before its implementation.
“It is decided that if the government does not address and / or initiate the process to resolve the above demands of the industry in a positive way, then another meeting of the governing council will be called,” the statement read.
He added that they will be forced to hand over their vehicles and declare the national suspension of transport operations.
