Unnao police file murder case in death of 2 Dalit girls, autopsy shows no injury marks; to be cremated today

Police on Thursday recorded a murder case in connection with the deaths of two teenagers whose bodies were found in a field here, even though an autopsy revealed no wound marks. A third girl, receiving respiratory assistance at a Kanpur hospital, is being treated for suspected poisoning.

Responding to a question about the cremation of the two girls, Police Superintendent Unnao Anand Kulkarni told PTI: “The cremation will take place tomorrow (Friday) morning. Our job is to maintain law and order. There is no pressure from us. They said that they will incinerate tomorrow since some of their relatives will come. It is a decision, we are not going to pressure them. “

The Uttar Pradesh human rights body took note of the incident in the village of Babuhara in Asoha, about 36 km south of Lucknow in Unnao district on Wednesday night and political parties criticized the government of Yogi Adityanath for it.

Although the cause of death could not be immediately determined at autopsy, samples of the girls’ viscera were kept for further examination, police said.

Police dismissed the suggestion that the victims had their hands tied, citing the absence of injury marks. In addition to Section 302 (murder), the FIR also lists Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code, related to disappearance of evidence. The case that mentions the two sections was presented on the basis of the family’s complaint.

The three girls, aged 16, 15 and 14, were found in a field by villagers when they did not return after leaving their home to carry livestock fodder, police said.

Villagers took the teenagers, who are relatives, to a hospital, where two of them were pronounced dead. The other girl was rushed to a district hospital and later referred to a Kanpur medical center, according to police.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took serious note of the incident and requested a detailed report from the Director General of Police (DGP). It has ordered authorities to ensure proper treatment of the teenager, according to a spokesperson. DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi said that six police teams had been formed and that senior officials were overseeing the investigation.

“The autopsy of the two girls was carried out by a panel of doctors and no injuries before death or external injuries were found on their bodies,” Awasthi said in a video clip released to the media.

“The cause of death could not be determined and the viscera have been preserved for chemical analysis,” he said. “We are taking the help of forensic experts and looking at all the possibilities.”

A medical bulletin from the Kanpur hospital treating the third girl noted that it was a suspected case of poisoning, the officer said.

Earlier, Unnao SP Kulkarni said that there was a contradiction in the statements of the girls’ relatives. He added that the brother had said the girls were tied with a stole, while his mother said Thursday that it was around his neck.

“Our investigation has found that the bodies had no markings on either the hands or the legs, suggesting that they were not tied,” said the SP.

Kulkarni said family members who were the first to arrive at the scene were questioned, adding that the autopsy was carried out by a panel of three doctors and a cameraman. On speculation that it was an honor killing case, the officer said that all aspects would be investigated. Congressional leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the state government over the issue of women’s safety.

“The UP government is crushing not only Dalit society, but also the honor and human rights of women,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted. “But you must remember that I and the entire party in Congress will be the voice of the victims and will work to do them justice.”

He also used the hashtag “Save_Unnao_Ki_Beti” (Unnao’s daughter) in his tweet.

Priyanka Gandhi demanded that the third girl be transferred to Delhi for better medical treatment and asked why her family had been detained. In a Facebook post, he said: “The Unnao incident is heartbreaking. Listening to the family and providing immediate medical help to the third victim is very important to the investigation and justice.”

BSP chief Mayawati expressed his condolences to the affected family and described the incident as “very serious and sad”.

“The BSP demands a high-level investigation into the incident and a strict punishment for the culprits,” he tweeted.

Samajwadi Party supreme Akhilesh Yadav described it as shocking and a “disgrace to humanity”, and demanded strict punishment for those guilty.

“It appears that the prime minister did not care about law and order in the state. The state has become unsafe for women because of the BJP,” she said in a statement.

He said that the Adityanath government had “failed” to control atrocities committed against women.

“The BJP government has no policy for the safety of women. The ideology of the BJP ignores the interests of women. UP has become ” Hatya Pradesh ” (murderous state) in the current regime,” Yadav added. .

Hearing suo-motu, the Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission requested a report from the SP within two weeks, said panel member KP Singh. Bhim’s army chief, Chandra Shekhar Aazad, demanded that an AIIMS Delhi medical board conduct an autopsy and that the third girl be transferred there for treatment.

A spokesman for the Samajwadi Party said a delegation would visit Unnao on Saturday to meet with relatives of the victims. The MLC Sunil Singh Yadav party, who is from Unnao, alleged that the police are trying to silence the case and sought an investigation by an independent agency.
