UP College Suspends 3 Kashmiri Students Over WhatsApp Post on Pak Win

Srinagar: Three students from Jammu and Kashmir have been suspended by an engineering school in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra for allegedly posting a WhatsApp status praising Pakistani players after their victory over India in a T20 World Cup league match.

The students, Arsheed Yousef, Inayat Altaf Sheikh, Showkat Ahmed Ganai, are from the Raja Balwant Singh engineering technical campus in Bichpuri.

The university hostel called the students’ action to publish a pro-Pakistan status as an “act of indiscipline.”

“Therefore, the hostel’s discipline committee has decided to suspend all three with immediate effect,” read the suspension notice from Dr. Dushyant Singh, dean of the shelters.

Local leaders of the BJP youth wing have also filed a complaint against Kashmiri students at the Jagdishpura Police Station.

SP (city) Agra Vikas Kumar said that the police had received a complaint about it and will take action on the basis of the complaint.

The university administration subsequently suspended the students on Monday.

“The students were studying under the Prime Minister’s Super Special Plan. We also informed the PM office and AICTE of the student law. However, the students have apologized,” said Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Director of Administration and institute finances. quoted by the PTI news agency.

On Sunday, India lost its first T20 World Cup match against Pakistan by 10 wickets. It was the first time that India lost to Pakistan in a World Cup.

In another development, two cases under the harsh anti-terrorism law, the Illicit Activities (Prevention) Act or UAPA, were brought against medical students in Srinagar who celebrated Pakistan’s first victory in the T20 World Cup against India.

The videos show female students rejoicing in Pakistan’s victory and shouting pro-Pakistan slogans in the girls’ shelters of Srinagar Medical College and Shere Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences.

The victory also sparked allegations of violence at an engineering school in Sangrur, Punjab, where a group of Kashmiri students claimed to have been assaulted by people from Uttar Pradesh. The alleged attackers claimed that the Kashmiris were supporting the Pakistan team.
