US 3-0 win against Honduras in World Cup qualifying match

US 3-0 win against Honduras in World Cup qualifying match, Canada beat El Salvador.

On Wednesday, the United States hammered Honduras 3-0, securing 3 points during World Cup qualifying, while group leaders Canada kept their unbeaten streak going by winning 2-0 against El Salvador.

On Sunday, the United States had gotten off with a slow start in their 2-0 loss against Canada.

But they were able to play with urgency right from the beginning to make sure they put Honduras in the rear.

Weston McKennie perfectly timed his leap to score the opening minute during a cold winter day at Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Walker Zimmerman added a second after halftime, but the goal was confirmed only following the lengthy VAR review.

Christian Pulisic, who has had a difficult time in recent matches, came off the bench to a roaring ovation during the second half. He scored minutes later to take the game beyond reach.

“It was a great performance from the team today to get a critical three points,” Pulisic told the media.

“It was my job to come in and make a difference, and I’m glad I could do that.”

The United States is trying to get to the World Cup after missing out on Russia in 2018. Meanwhile, unbeaten Honduras was already eliminated before the match began.

Canada has gone 11 consecutive games without losing in the group. The win against El Salvador put them close to the debut World Cup appearance since 1986.

Atiba Hutchinson started the scoring to Canada within the first minute of the game, before Jonathan David wrapped up the victory in the final minute of the closing minutes.

On Wednesday, Costa Rica eliminated Jamaica with a 1-0 victory after an injury-time penalty by Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez was enough to secure Mexico a 1-0 win at home against Panama.

Three games remain for qualifying Canada leads the 8-team CONCACAF team with 25 points. That’s four points ahead of those from the United States and Mexico.

The top three teams automatically will be eligible to play in Qatar 2022. The fourth-placed team is going to an international tournament.
