US will provide supplies to Ukraine in case Russia uses chemical weapons.
Washington: the US is supplying Ukraine with supplies and equipment in case Russia uses chemical or biological weapons to invade Ukraine.
The supplies are being handed to the Ukrainian government in light of warnings from the US and other countries that Russia could use such weapons and maybe plotting a “false flag” operation to set the basis for such an assault, according to the White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
The White House has not offered any evidence that Russia is planning an attack of this magnitude. Last week, a senior US defense official stated no concrete signs that a chemical or biological weapons assault in Ukraine was imminent.
The Russian government, which refers to the conflict as a “special military operation,” has accused Ukraine of preparing to use chemical weapons without presenting evidence.
According to US authorities, that assertion is a deception, and it could imply that Russia is ready to do so as well.
Last week, senior administration officials revealed that the White House had formed a team of experts to plan how to respond if Moscow uses chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons.
“To assist our Ukrainian partners, the US government is providing the government of Ukraine lifesaving equipment and supplies that could be deployed in the event of Russian use of a chemical or biological weapon,” Psaki told reporters when asked about reports that Washington was now providing gas masks and other protective equipment to Ukraine.
The transfer of such goods, she said, would “not jeopardize our domestic preparation in any way, shape, or form.”
According to EU documents and persons aware of the situation, the European Union has also initiated a stockpiling operation to strengthen its defenses against chemical, nuclear, and biological attacks in the wake of concerns about the conflict in Ukraine.
Last week, US President Joe Biden stated that if Russian President Vladimir Putin used chemical weapons in the invasion of Ukraine, the US would respond.
“We’d respond if he used it, and we’d respond if he didn’t. The nature of the response would be determined by the type of usage. “At a press conference in Brussels, Biden stated.
