Uttarakhand government suspends Char Dham Yatra Amid Covid 19.

The Uttarakhand government has decided to suspend the Char Dham Yatra this year in light of the worsening Covid-19 situation in the state, the ANI news agency reported. Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that only the priests of the four temples will perform rituals and puja. The yatra was scheduled to begin on May 14.

Char Dham – Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri is located in the Garhwal region of the state. The state government had previously prepared draft standard operating procedures (SOPs) for pilgrim registration and visitation. The draft was not made public as the government decided to review the situation.

The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state has risen from 2,236 on April 1 to 45,383 on Wednesday.
