Virat Kohli said that they have a plan, so not getting too excited
In search of an inaugural title, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli said on Wednesday his team has plans and is “not getting too excited” with two wins in as many outings in the current Indian Premier League.
Kohli’s team defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by six runs.
RCB managed just 149 out of eight, but the Kohli-led team stopped SRH at 143 out of nine for their second consecutive victory of the tournament and to the top of the points table.
“To be very honest, we are not too excited about the victories this season. We have plans. We switched Harshal (Patel) from Delhi, we gave him a specific role and he is doing a great job, ”Kohli said in the post-match presentation.
Kohli, who used seven bowlers against the Mumbai Indians last week and the Sunrisers on Wednesday, said the luxury of having additional options has helped the team.
“Not so exhausted as proud (of the team). You’re never really out of the game in these conditions. Additional bowling options made those performances hit the middle.
“I told the guys that they don’t think we struggled to get to 149. If it was difficult for us, it will be difficult for them as well. Our execution under pressure was successful. He kept getting harder and harder on the old ball. I think Maxi’s tickets made a difference for us, ”he added.
Losing captain David Warner praised his bowlers but lamented the missed opportunities at the bat.
“Our bowlers were fantastic at restraining them. Maxwell hit well and set up the platform. We needed two established hitters at the end, but we didn’t make it. We needed to build a society and play proper cricket shots.
“We play cross shots and that’s not the way to play here. This hurts. We know how to approach the next games. We have another three games here and I think the fields are going to improve, ”he added.
