Vitamin C: Tripura's New Weapon In Its Fight Against Coronavirus

New Delhi: In an attempt to protect its urban population from the new coronavirus, the Tripura government has finalized a program under which juices and fruits enriched with vitamin C, especially lemon and pineapple, will be used.

The program involves distributing vitamin C-fortified juices and fruits to the urban population through self-help groups every Saturday. It was initially finalized for July alone and will cost the state government 1 crore.

“Your body needs strong immunity to fight the coronavirus, and for this reason, vitamin C is known to be effective in strengthening immunity. We are starting Mukhyamantri Corona Immunity Abhiyan to make the juice and fruits enriched with vitamin C available to the general public, ”Prime Minister Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted.

“In this campaign, which will begin on Saturday, July 4, every Saturday from 12 p.m. At 4 p.m., there will be free distribution of pineapple and lemon juice to the public in the urban bodies and the headquarters of the subdivision. It has been purchased directly from farmers. So they can also get help. The distribution will be made through self-help groups, “he added.

The teams from the Nation’s Urban Livelihood Mission will oversee the effective implementation of the scheme on the ground.

Notably, Tripura grows two juicy varieties of pineapple, called Queen and Kew, which are exported. With a total of almost 1,400 cases of coronavirus, its count is the highest in the northeast after Assam.
