Minister of State for Internal Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday praised the Delhi Police for their role in handling the disturbances in northeast Delhi last year and this year’s violence and vandalism on the Day of Republic. He claimed that the two incidents were part of a larger conspiracy to smear the country.
“There are many anti-India elements that want to spread the instability. Delhi continues to be its focal point. The riots and illegal protests that took place in February 2020 were part of this scheme, but the way the Delhi police handled it is an example to other police forces, ”said Reddy while attending the 74th Rising Day of the Delhi Police.
“On January 26, we witnessed how anti-Indian powers used the farmers’ protest to alter the situation of law and order in Delhi. Despite their anti-national activities and provocative behavior, the Delhi police acted with restraint and dealt with the situation responsibly, ”he added.
At the same event, Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava said: “We conducted an impartial investigation into the violence in North East Delhi using technology and evidence. One officer was killed and many staff members were injured. We did not discriminate on the basis of religion and we registered 755 cases. Almost 1,800 were arrested ”.
On the role of the Delhi Police during the Covid-19-induced lockdown, Shrivastava said: “The Delhi Police approached the Covid-19 lockdown in a commendable way, earning the title of ‘Dil Ki Police’. Interior Minister Amit Shah also praised the efforts of the police force. We lost 34 policemen during this period ”.
