With more than 1 lakh of votes, Udayan Guha of the All India Trinamool Congress won the seat of Dinhata in the 2016 Assembly elections

Dinhata’s Assembly / Vidhan Sabha constituency is located in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. It belongs to the Cooch Behar (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.
The constituency, reserved for candidates from the programmed castes, has 2.87,966 voters and 316 voting tables.

The turnout of voters in Dinhata in the previous Assembly election was 81.88 percent.
Winners and results of previous elections
In the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections, Udayan Guha from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won Dinhata’s seat. The AITC and BJP obtained 45.04 percent and 11.42 percent of votes respectively in the 2016 polls. Guha obtained 1,00,732 votes in the 2016 polls, followed by the AIFB candidate who obtained 78,939 votes. He was also voted into power from the seat in the 2011 Assembly elections. Guha, Dinhata’s Forward Bloc MLA, joined the Trinamool Congress on October 1, 2015.
The Dinhata Assembly constituency is expected to go to the polls in April or May 2021, as part of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
The West Bengal Assembly elections will be held to elect a total of 294 members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
According to the 2011 census estimates, out of a total of 3.42,535 inhabitants, 88.18 percent are rural and 11.82 percent are urban. Programmed Castes (SC) and Programmed Tribes (ST) are 41.42 and 0.42 percent, respectively, of the total population.
