Sitai’s Assembly / Vidhan Sabha constituency is located in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. It belongs to the Cooch Behar (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.
The constituency, reserved for candidates from the programmed castes, has 2.76,958 voters and 293 voting tables.
Voter turnout in previous elections
Voter turnout in Sitai in the previous Assembly elections was 83.14 percent, of whom 52.37 percent were men and 47.63 percent were women.

In the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections, Jagadish Chandra Barma from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the seat of Sitai. The TMC, the BJP, and Congress obtained 47.39 percent, 12.74 percent, and 35.82 percent of votes respectively in the 2016 polls.
The Sitai Assembly constituency is expected to go to the polls in April or May 2021, as part of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
The West Bengal Assembly elections will be held to elect a total of 294 members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
According to the 2011 census estimates, out of a total of 3,34,257 inhabitants, all are rural. Programmed Castes (SC) and Programmed Tribes (ST) are 50.56 and 0.38 percent, respectively, of the total population.
Clashes around the time of the elections have been seen often in Sitai, most recently in December when activists from the TMC and BJP parties clashed, leaving more than 12 workers injured. The incident occurred during a BJP rally led by MP Nisith Pramanik and BJP State Secretary General Sayantan Basu. Around the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, four BJP supporters were attacked in Sitai in the district, one of them was shot by suspected TMC supporters, while three others were beaten.
Basunia is among the TMC leaders who spoke in support of Mihir Goswami, the Cooch Behar South MLA who joined the BJP, amid rumors within the party against internal changes made on the recommendation of election strategist Prashant Kishor.
