“The seventh phase of the West Bengal elections takes place today. Urging the people to exercise their right to vote and follow all protocols related to COVID-19,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

Security measures have been tightened in the face of violence in previous phases, in particular, the death of five people in Cooch Behar on April 10, an Election Commission official said.

The voting panel has deployed at least 796 central forces companies in the seventh phase to ensure a free and fair vote, he said. It has also put measures in place to ensure strict compliance with health protocols during the electoral process, including the use of face masks and the maintenance of social distancing.
