Janata Dal (Secular) boss and former prime minister HD Devegowda confirmed on Wednesday that he tested positive for Covid-19.

The 87-year-old veteran leader also called on party workers and supporters to take proper precautions.
Previously, in August last year, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa and the opposition leader Siddaramaiah had hired infection within a few days. Both leaders were admitted to the same floor of a private hospital in Bengaluru, where they recovered successfully.
All the top leaders of all parties, including Yediyurappa, Siddaramaiah, and HD Kumaraswamy, have taken their first dose of Covid-19 vaccines as the state fights the second wave of cases.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases in Karnataka are slowly approaching the 1 million mark, with 2,975 people contracting the infection on Tuesday.
At the same time, the number of active cases statewide increased to 25,541. Of these, almost 70 percent are in Bangalore alone. The state also reported 21 deaths in the past 24 hours, the highest on a single day this year.
