Maryam Nawaz, daughter of deposed Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, said on Monday that she will not leave the country to meet her father in London for treatment despite an apparent offer from the Imran Khan government to go abroad.
“Even if someone (from the government) comes to my house and offers to go abroad, I will reject it immediately,” he said while speaking to reporters at his Jati Umra Raiwind residence here.
“I know some ministers are saying that if Maryam is allowed to go abroad, the opposition movement (against the government) will vanish. But let me make it clear that I will not leave my country no matter what, and that I will not seek the removal of my name from the list of banned people, “he said.
The PML-N vice president further said that she had to undergo “minor surgery” which is not possible in Pakistan. “But despite this I will not leave Pakistan. I will live and die in my country ”, he affirmed.
Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that the passport of the supreme PML-N, Nawaz Sharif, will be canceled on February 16.
Sharif has been living in London since November 2019 after he was allowed to leave the country for medical treatment.
The Prime Minister’s Advisor on Accountability and Home Affairs, Mirza Shahzad Akbar, said UK authorities were asked to deport the convicted former prime minister of her country.
He said that Pakistan had written a letter to the UK to cancel Sharif’s visa that was issued for medical treatment after making a commitment.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said in October that he would contact British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, if necessary, to discuss his deportation, and his adviser Akbar wrote a letter to British Home Secretary Priti Patel on October 5 urging her to deport the former prime minister whom he said is responsible for looting the state.
Maryam has alleged that the “selectors” (a reference to army chief Gen Bajwa and others) are being questioned within the institution regarding the imposition of inept and incompetent Imran Khan on the nation.
“Now voices are being raised within the institution to impose this incompetent Imran on the nation who made people’s lives miserable,” he said, lamenting Sheikh Rashid’s “inhumane statement” on the use of water cannons in protests against the government employees.
Rashid had said that the government had tested water cannons on employees. “Tomorrow, this government will say that it is using an atomic bomb on the masses to test it,” Maryam said.
