The petitioner in the IPL points settlement case, Aditya Verma, said on Tuesday that his lawyers “will not oppose” a waiver of the cooling off period for BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and the secretary when the matter is heard in court. Supreme.
The apex court is slated to hear a request by the BCCI on Wednesday to amend its constitution and allow the Ganguly and Shah duo to remain in place rather than go through a mandatory cooling-off period.
Bihar Cricket Association Secretary Verma is the original petitioner in the 2013 IPL scoring scandal, which led the main court to form the Lodha Panel, which recommended radical constitutional reforms on the board of richest cricket in the world.
According to the new BCCI constitution, a three-year reflection period is mandatory after serving for six years as an officer in a state association or on the Board.
Ganguly and Shah took over the BCCI last October with just nine months left to complete their cumulative six years in state and national unity.
Verma reasoned that the Ganguly and Shah duo are necessary for the stability of the Board.
“I have always maintained that Sourav Ganguly is the best man to lead the BCCI. I think Dada and Jay Shah should get a full term to stabilize the BCCI again,” Verma told PTI.
“Therefore, on behalf of CAB, I will have no objection if Dada is allowed to continue as BCCI president,” Verma said.
“Of his nine months, four months have already been lost due to the coronavirus and any administrator needs time to implement plans and policies,” he added.
Ganguly completes his six years later this month, while Shah has completed it.
The former Indian captain previously held positions in the Bengal Cricket Association, while Shah was a joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association.
