On Sunday, the Indians beat Pakistan by 107 runs in their first game of the 2022 World Cup in Mount Maunganui.
This was the best way for them to start their campaign. First, India looked strong at 96/1, with Smriti Mandhana scoring 52.
Then, in quick succession, wickets fell, and they were down to 114/6.
Sneh Rana’s 53 and Pooja Vastrakar’s 67 helped India reach a total of 244/7 from their 50 overs, but they were not enough.
When Rajeshwari Gayakwad came on, India bowled Pakistan out for 137 to win by a lot.
Mithali Raj didn’t have a good day with the bat, but on Sunday, the 39-year-old became only the third cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and Javed Miandad to play in six World Cups and the first woman to do so.
Even though Raj was fired for a cheap reason, her team still got their desired result.
“In the first game, our team won. There are still a lot of things we need to work on. When you lose wickets in the middle order, it puts a lot of stress on you. In a big tournament like this, the top order has to score runs, like in a game, “Raj said at the post-match awards ceremony.
“Our batting line grows when we have all-rounders like Sneh, Deepti, and Pooja. The next game is coming up, and I hope Pooja will be well enough to play in it.”
They were hoping to keep India in check after they had them at 114 for six. The stand between Rana and Vastrakar hurt them a lot.
Nida Dar (2/45) and Nashra Sandhu (2/36) for Pakistan. They each took two wickets.
