Yogi Adityanath Meets Amit Shah Over UP Cabinet

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, met Amit Shah, the Home Minister, to discuss the formation and operation of the state’s government.

According to party sources, the two leaders spoke about the ministers sworn into office with Mr. Adityanath on March 25. The meeting took place at the home minister’s residence on Wednesday night.

On Thursday, the BJP, which returned to power in this crucial state, will elect its legislative party head. The party’s observer in UP government formation, Mr. Shah, and several other top BJP leaders are expected to attend.

The BJP and its allies won 274 of the 403 seats, becoming the first party to form a government in the state in more than three decades.

BJP will name Mr. Adityanath the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at Thursday’s meeting. Sources said that the party has yet to call for the names of the Deputy Chief Ministers.

It is unclear whether Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Maurya, the incumbents, will remain. Mr. Sharma didn’t contest the election, while Mr. Maurya was one of the most prominent OBC faces in UP.

The Adityanath-led government’s swearing-in ceremony on Friday at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow. Sources within the BJP claim that up to 40 ministers may also be sworn-in.

The ceremony will include the attendance of the Chief Minister of all BJP states and other high-ranking politicians from across India. The chief guest will be Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
