Zelensky says the situation in some places is very tough.

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine approached day 37, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the situation in the south and the Donbas region remained complicated and that Russia was bolstering its soldiers near Mariupol, which is under siege.

“There will be fights in the future. To obtain all we desire, we’ll have to continue down a difficult path,” he stated

“The situation in the south and Donbas is still quite bad.”

In a video speech on Thursday (April 1, 2022), the Ukrainian President also announced that he had fired two senior members of the national security service because they were traitors.

Zelensky also said that he had sacked two senior officials from the national security service, including the general head of internal security and the agency’s Kherson branch.

This was the first time the Ukrainian President had announced high-profile sackings of Ukrainian defense officials.

“I don’t have time to deal with all of the traitors at the moment,” he added, adding that the two men had abandoned their promise to preserve Ukraine. He didn’t provide any specifics.

As part of their efforts to secure the separatist Donbas and Luhansk regions in the southeast, Zelensky said Ukrainian forces had forced Russian soldiers out of Kyiv and Chernihiv, two cities Moscow had stated would no longer be the target of attacks.

“Monsters who burn and pillage, who attack and are set on murder,” Zelensky, who frequently employs vivid imagery, said of the Russians, who he described as “monsters who burn and loot, who attack and are focused on murder.”

In addition, Moscow refutes Kyiv’s claims that Russian forces are targeting civilians.
