Anti-CAA protests: Assam government tells AASU not to disrupt recruitment drive

Pijush Hazarika, the minister of information and public relations for Assam, made a plea to the CAA protestors on Thursday not to stir up trouble during the exam for the significant hiring drive that would start on Sunday.

Although our ideologies may vary, he said it was inappropriate to stir up trouble during one of the state government’s most extensive hiring campaigns by holding job candidates hostage.

Assam is preparing for a significant hiring effort to fill grade 3 and 4 positions in the state government agencies with a workforce of about 30,000 people. The three-phase hiring procedure will start the following Sunday. More than 14 lakh hopefuls are anticipated to show up for the test.

The anti-CAA demonstration has now returned to the state. Within the following days, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) plans to stage another wave of protest.

If demonstrations and dissent occur on exam days, the state administration worries that the exams may be disrupted.

Hazarika poked fun at AASU and other organizations and said that confident leaders and organizations had deceived the general public with false information and claims during the 2019 protest against the CAA. In the guise of protest, some thugs even caused extensive property damage in Guwahati, particularly Kalaskhetra.

However, he said, “the people recognised the truth and supported the present administration.”

Notably, on Wednesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a virtual conference with government representatives and other stakeholders and gave them instructions to take all necessary actions to ensure that the examination process went well.
