Asaduddin Owaisi claims the BJP wants to lead India to the 1990s riots

AIMIM chairman Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Gyanvapi Mosque issue on Wednesday, saying the governing party at the Centre wants to return the nation to the 1990s when riots erupted.

The AIMIM chairman also criticized a court judgment in Varanasi that ordered the space of the Gyanvapi mosque to be shut after the Hindu side claimed to have discovered a “Shivling” during the survey, saying the order was “wrong.”

According to Owaisi, who spoke to ANI, “According to the Supreme Court judgment, Muslims are entitled to practice their religion, which implies we may conduct wazu there. It’s a fountain, after all. If this occurs, all of the Taj Mahal’s fountains will be turned off. The BJP wants to return the nation to the 1990s when riots broke out.”

Earlier on Monday, a Varanasi court ordered the district administration to seal the survey site within the complex where the surveying crew purportedly discovered a ‘Shivling.’

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard the Gyanvapi mosque issue and ordered the Varanasi district magistrate to safeguard the spot where a shivling was allegedly discovered without interfering with the Muslim community’s freedom to worship.

When asked about the resignation of Gujarat Congress Committee working president Hardik Patel, the AIMIM chairman replied, “For 15 years, the Congress dominated Maharashtra, but it is now a third-placed party in the state, with no presence in Delhi. Their population is dispersing. Their working president (Hardik Patel) in Gujarat has lost faith in the unofficial president and has resigned.”

Hardik Patel, who resigned from the Congress on Wednesday, took a swipe at the state leadership, claiming that they are more concerned with ensuring that the Delhi leaders receive their “chicken sandwich” on time.
