Until Friday, Bangladesh had lost all 19 matches against South Africa in all formats on their soil, but they beat South Africa by 38 runs.
South Africa won the second match by seven wickets in Johannesburg, but Bangladesh won the series-deciding match on Wednesday.
It was a quick start for South Africa. Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock made 46 for the first wicket in just seven overs.
But Taskin bowled well after off-spinner Mehidy Hasan made the first break by getting rid of De Kock.
Taskin, 26, had his best performance since taking five for 28 on his debut against India in Mirpur in 2014 when he was 26. His pace was high for three spells, and he made the batters think twice about getting a good hit from them.
During the Bangladesh innings, Litton Das was caught by Keshav Maharaj at a backward point in the first over. Before Das scored, Maharaj made a mistake.
When Das and Tamim were let off, they took advantage of it. They put on 127 for the first wicket.
