Paul, a fashion designer, will run against Trinamool Congress candidate Shatrughan Sinha in the byelection to the Asansol Lok Sabha seat. The BJP announced it on Friday.
If there is a by-election in the Ballygunje seat in Kolkata, the BJP’s female wing leader, Keya Ghosh, has been chosen as the party candidate. She is a well-known face in TV debates.
She was put up against a former union minister and a candidate for Trinamool, Babul Supriyo.

Delhi’s BJP central leadership announced the names, a spokesman for the party in West Bengal said.
It will be held on April 12 for both seats, and votes will be counted on April 16.
Asansol South in the Paschim Bardhaman district is where Ms. Paul was elected to the state assembly last year. She was elected on a BJP ticket, and she won.
Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool party, nominated actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha to run from the industrial city of Asansol, which has a sizeable Hindi-speaking population.
The Left Front chose party leader Partha Mukherjee to run in the Asansol Lok Sabha seat by-election.
TMC nominate Babul Supriyo For Ballygunge assembly seat
Saira Shah Halim is a candidate for the CPI(M) in the Ballygunge assembly seat. She is a well-known face on debate shows that air on national news channels at prime time.
To hold a by-election in Asansol, the BJP had to get rid of Mr. Supriyo as an MP after joining Trinamool in September 2013.
Subrata Mukherjee, an MLA and a state minister died in November 2021. A by-election will fill the Ballygunge Assembly seat.
Ms. Paul could not be reached because she didn’t answer calls or text messages.
Keya Ghosh said that Mr. Supriyo had acted most unethical by switching allegiances.
“Also, I’ll have to find out who Supriyo is to stop the TMC’s misrule and attack on democracy. He will lose in the by-poll, “She also said.
