BJP Invites Manipur Leaders

People say the BJP’s central leadership is meeting in Delhi to talk about how to run the state of Manipur and how to pick the next Chief Minister.

Biren Singh, the caretaker Chief Minister, and Biswajit Singh, a strong candidate for the job, will be there for the meeting.

There have been reports of factionalism over who should be in charge.

Party chief Sarda Devi and state in-charge Sambit Patra will also be there, sources from the BJP have told the New York Times.

It didn’t say who would be the party’s leader in Manipur, but N Biren Singh, who had been out and about, led the party in elections.

It has been longer for Biswajit Singh to be in the BJP than for Biren Singh to be in it, BJP sources say.

After the 2017 elections, Biren Singh was chosen for the top job.

Settling for either leader could get you in trouble from the other side. It would need to be done quickly for the BJP to handle this well.

The party won the state by a narrow margin of 32 seats out of 60.

Another candidate for the top job is Konthoujam Govindas Singh, a former state Congress leader who joined the BJP in August 2021.

He was the state’s party leader before that. BJP sources say that the RSS played a big role in getting Mr Govidas to join the party, but they don’t tell how.

There would be a loss of face for the BJP if there were problems inside the party.

On the other hand, the party has support from the Janata Dal (United) and the Naga People’s Front (NPF), as well as two Independents from the state.

The JDU has won six seats, and the NPF has won five hearts.

Other than who will be in charge in your state, you’ll also have to decide who will be in the cabinet. Both of your allies are hoping to get a lot of seats.

After Biren Singh resigned on Friday, he was asked to stay as caretaker Chief Minister until a new Chief Minister could be found.
