Bappi Lahiri Dies

The composer Bappi Lahiri, famous as the synthesized DJ, died in a Mumbai hospital Mumbai at age 69. 

According to the news agency PTI, he was in the hospital receiving treatment for multiple health problems for the past month.

“Bappi Lahiri was admitted to the hospital for a month and then released on Monday. He was suffering from multiple health issues. But his health started to deteriorate on Tuesday, and his family members contacted a doctor at their home. The doctor was able to take him to the hospital. He died of OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) just before midnight.” Dr. Deepak Namjoshi, director of CritiCare hospital, said to PTI.

Bappi Lahiri’s funeral will take place in the Pawan Hans Crematorium on Thursday following the arrival of his son Bappa arrives from the USA as per PTI.

Tributes from Bollywood to Bappi Lahiri flooded into this morning. 

Akshay Kumar shared a tweet: “Today we lost another star from the music industry. Bappi Da Your voice was the catalyst that brought millions to dance, which included me. Thank you for all the joy that you created through your music. Heartfelt sympathy to the entire family. Om Shanti.” 

Ajay Devgan posted on Twitter: “Bappi Da was so adorable in person. However, his music was a bit of an edge. He introduced a new design that was a refreshing change to Hindi film music by using Chalte Chalte and Suraksha and Disco Dancer. Shanti Dada. We will miss you.”

Among the top personalities of Indian film music, Bappi Lahiri was a pioneer in disco music in the Bollywood of the 1980s and 90s and composed some superhit soundtracks for films like the Disco Dancer Dance Dance, Chalte Chalte, and Namak Halaal. 

He also had numerous music credits within the realm of Bengali cinema. 

He performed several songs he composed himself, including Koi Yaha Naache Naache in Disco Dancer and Pyar Bina Chain Kaha from Saheb.

 The Bappi da, or affectionately known, was a handsome figure wearing his signature chains of gold and sunglasses.

Bappi Lahiri, real name Alokesh was a short time as a politician and joined his party BJP in 2014. 

He was defeated during the Lok Sabha election to an incumbent Trinamool candidate.

Bappi Lahiri’s final Bollywood track is Bhankas from 2020 Baaghi 3. 

The singer is survived by son Bappa and daughter Rema.
