The governing body of South American football has clearly said that there is no question of postponing this season’s Copa America tournament. Therefore, the game will move to Argentina from Colombia. Colombia has previously applied for a postponement of the tournament.

Earlier, the official decided the tournament will organize in Colombia from June 13 to July 10. However, due to the current political situation in Colombia, the tournament was eventually moved to Argentina.

The organizers of Colombia filed a petition to delay it until November. However, the South American football association rejected this application.

A statement from the federation said: “This decision is due to the international sports schedule and the infrastructure of the tournament.”

Colombia is currently in political turmoil. Protests and demonstrations against the government are going on. This situation has created a situation of civil war throughout Colombia. So far, 42 people have died in the incident. In addition, the outbreak of the coronavirus has started to increase at a deadly rate in the last week.

Anti-government violence and demonstrations have begun in large numbers in Bogota, Medellin, and Cali. And, the Copa America matches also fixed in these three cities. For this reason, the South American football association had no other way to move the venue.

On the other hand, Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandez has already announced that Argentina can host the tournament if Colombia failed to organize the Copa America tournament.

But Argentina also has many problems at this moment. The Covid-19 has hit this country in a deadly way. Yesterday, Fernandez announced that Argentina would have a complete 9-day lockdown to deal with the virus.

Australia and Qatar have already withdrawn from the tournament in February. The game will start on June 14, 2021, with a match between Argentina and Chile.
