Euro 2028 will be held in the UK and Ireland

According to the Times, UK and Ireland are likely to host the European Championship together in 2028. There aren’t any other bids likely to be made before this week’s deadline.

All of the football associations in England dropped their plans to bid for the 2030 World Cup last month. UK and Ireland decided to go for Euro 2028 instead. New bids are not expected before Wednesday’s deadline. The Times said that UEFA is expected to make an official decision on April 7.

At Euro 2024 in Germany, the tournament could be expanded from 24 to 32 teams four years later. It’s unlikely that the five host countries would qualify even in an expanded tournament, even if there were more teams.

Before the bid to host the 2030 World Cup, Julian Knight, the lawmaker who chairs the UK parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Committee, said it was an “expensive vanity project.” This was after England failed to host the 2006 and 2018 World Cups on its own.

As UEFA tries to get its finances back on track after the Covid-19 virus, Mark Bullingham said last month that the five-nation Euro bid would be looked at favorably.

The man said, “We think we can put together an extreme tournament in many ways.” “We also know that we can make a lot of money for UEFA, which puts us in a good place.”

Wembley has been a popular place to host major UEFA finals because it can hold 90,000 people and has a lot of corporate space.

England and Scotland hosted 12 games during last year’s postponed Euro 2020, which took place in 11 different countries and had to be moved.

Thousands of England fans stormed Wembley in the hope of seeing the Three Lions’ first major tournament final in 55 years. Italy won the game.

There were fears that England might not be able to host major sporting events because of the violence. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, however, said that those fears were unfounded.

UEFA said in December that London would also host the first edition of a new intercontinental final between the champions of Europe and South America, which will be played on June 1. Italy will play Argentina.
