Everton Defeats Manchester United

On Saturday, relegation-threatened Everton won a priceless game against Manchester United as Chelsea thrashed Southampton 6-0 in a game that could be very important in the race for the top four places in the Premier League.

Arsenal lost again, this time 2-1 to Brighton, while Leeds moved even further away from the drop zone with a 3-0 victory over Watford.

Frank Lampard hasn’t been able to get Everton going since taking over from Rafael Benitez in late January. Before United came, he had only won two of his nine league games.

In the middle of the week, a 3-2 loss to Burnley left the team just one point above their relegation rivals and without any confidence.

But goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made two fantastic saves to keep Marcus Rashford out in the early stages at Goodison Park in the spring sunshine.

Anthony Gordon scored the game’s only goal with a shot that took a massive deflection off of England defender Harry Maguire and fooled David de Gea in the United goal.

Visitors Cristiano Ronaldo was back on the team, but the visitors couldn’t find a way to score and lost for the eighth time in a league game this year.

Lampard said he was proud of his hard-working team, who are trying to keep Everton’s record of being in the English top-flight every season since 1954 going strong for so long.

Ex-Chelsea manager BT Sport said: “Beautiful football can come later on.” “I want this club to stay up and play well, but in the situation we’re in, we have to fight.”

Ralf Rangnick, the interim manager of Manchester United, was downbeat after his team lost again. They are still in seventh place, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham before the late game between Spurs and Aston Villa, so Rangnick was unhappy.

Man Utd, who finished second last season, has only won 47 per cent of their Premier League games under the German. That’s the worst record of any manager in the league.

Ricky Rangnick, who has been a United consultant for two years, was asked if speculation about the club’s next manager was making the club feel like it was in a state of flux.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Ajax, is a strong favourite to become the club’s next long-term boss.

“People from all over the world play for Manchester United, and we have a lot of them. This can’t be used as an excuse by anyone. It shouldn’t matter if the next manager is announced in 10, 14, or 21 days.”

Chelsea’s riot

Third-placed When Chelsea lost to Brentford last week, they lost 4-1. Then they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid.

Then on Saturday, they put Southampton to the sword and raced into a 4-0 lead with less than an hour to go.

It was over for the home team by half-time, thanks to goals from Marcos Alonso, Mason Mount, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz, who put the game out of reach.

Second-half goals from Werner and Mount both made the game even worse.

In the last few weeks, Arsenal has had a bad run. They are now in an excellent position to play in the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17.

Michael Arteta’s team lost at home to Brighton in the league on Saturday, which means they have now lost three of their last four league games. They are now level with their fierce rivals Tottenham, who have played the same number of games.

A low cross from Enock Mwepu set Brighton on their way to victory at the Emirates Stadium. Leandro Trossard scored the first goal when he turned in a cross from the Zambian midfielder. Martin Odegaard scored a late goal.

All three of them scored to give Leeds their third win in four games and move them nine points clear of the relegation zone.

They play each other at the Etihad on Sunday in a match that could decide the outcome of the English Premier League.
