Poland Breaks Sweden's World Cup Dream.

Robert Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot in the second half as Poland beat Sweden 2-0 in Tuesday’s play-off match. Afterwards, Piotr Zielinski scored a great goal for the hosts in Chorzow to put the game out of reach for Poland.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus played a big part in Poland’s win over Sweden. He made two important saves to keep Swedish playmaker Emil Forsberg from scoring in both halves.

Poland will go into Friday’s draw for the group stages of the World Cup finals, which run from November 21 to December 18, having won the second half.

After halftime, the Poles were given the penalty to make a big difference.

Attacking midfielder Sebastian Szymanski threw the ball into a substitute who Jesper Karlstrom fouled.

The referee pointed right at the spot, and it was a penalty kick by Lewandowski that he’s known to do well. The Bayern Munich player made no big moves. He just casually ran, waited for Robin Olsen to move, and then threw a ball to the left of the Swedish goalie.

It was his 75th goal for Poland, and it was probably one of the most important ones.

When Sweden defender Marcus Danielson made a mistake, Zielinski took advantage of it and ran away to win the game.

With 18 minutes to go, he slid his shot past Olsen. The home crowd went wild.

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski had a great chance to score a second goal when the Swedish defence gave him a rare late chance in the area. Olsen made a great save to keep it out.

He came on for the last 10 minutes, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic couldn’t affect the game and won’t be able to play at a World Cup final for the third time.
