New Delhi: Kapil Sibal said Tuesday, March 15, 2022, that he wanted a ‘Sab ki Congress’. He also stated that he believes that the ‘Gandhis must step aside.’
Party members criticized him for speaking the language of RSS and BJP, attracting flak from the senior Congress leader.
“Leadership in the cuckoo country ….” I want a Sab ki Congress. Some want a Ghar ki Congress, “Sibal told the Indian Express. He also said that the Gandhis should step aside and allow another leader to lead the party.
After the Congress Working Committee (CWC) met on Sunday, the remarks were made by Sonia Gandhi. They urged Sonia Gandhi after five hours of deliberations to continue leading the party and to start changes to strengthen it.
CWC also rejected Gandhi’s offer to make every sacrifice for the party. Some saw this as an offer by the Gandhi family to step down, and she reaffirmed her faith in her leadership.
Manickam Tagore is a loyal Rahul Gandhi supporter. He stated that the RSS and BJP want the Gandhis out of leadership positions within Congress to destroy the party and destroy India’s idea.
“Why RSS and BJP want Nehru-Gandhi’s out of the leadership? Because without Gandhi’s leadership, Congress would have become Janata party. It’s easy to kill Congress, then it’s easy to destroy the idea of India (sic),” Tagore said on Twitter.
“Kapil Sibal is aware of it, but why does he speak the language RSS/BJP?” The Lok Sabha whip of Congress asked.
Pawan Khera, the national spokesperson for Congress, said Sibal should run for Congress president instead of making public remarks against the party leadership.
He said, “Those who wish to lead Congress can fight the upcoming election for party president rather than chanting every day against the current leadership.”
Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan Chief Minister, also called Sibal’s comment “unfortunate.”
He said to reporters in Jaipur, “At a moment when the party loses elections, the leaders need to stand united.”
“Those who talk about finishing Congress will be finished.” He said that “Congress is a party of many years and that our leaders have made great sacrifices both before and after independence.”
Gehlot stated that Congress is the only party capable of fighting against the ruling BJP, and he praised Rahul Gandhi’s victory over Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
