On June 25, 1983, the Indian national cricket team under the leadership of Kapil Dev defied all odds of lifting their first World Cup trophy. On Thursday, the entire country came together to rewind and celebrate 37 years of the inaugural triumph of the Indian World Cup.

In the Prudential Cup final, it was the West Indies who won the draw and put India at bat first.

However, the side led by Kapil Dev could only put 183 on the board. In response, the West Indies withdrew by 140 when India won the match by 43 runs and stunned the world.

Kapil Dev lifts the trophy on Lord’s Cricket Ground’s balcony remains an image to savor for all Indian fans. Mohinder Amarnath was chosen as the man of the match as he scored 26 runs with the bat and also collected three wickets with the ball.
