Manchester City reaches the Champions League semi-finals

Manchester City reaches the Champions League semi-finals.

MADRID: Manchester City earned a tense 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, advancing to the Champions League semi-finals 1-0 on aggregate.

Tensions peaked in the closing moments, with Atletico defender Felipe collecting a second yellow card and being sent off before the teams played out the remaining 12 minutes of extra time.

Following Felipe’s dismissal for kicking out at Phil Foden, scuffles broke out among the players, which persisted after the final whistle as the teams went down the tunnel, requiring police intervention to restore order.

The English champions were in command in the first half, with Ilkay Gundogan hitting the post with their most excellent chance following a fluid play down the right flank. Still, they failed to score again for the remainder of the game.

Pep Guardiola dared Atletico to break away from their traditional conservative approach. Instead, they tried hard to play with more aggressive intent, urged on by a raucous crowd at the Metropolitano stadium.

To the chagrin of Atletico manager Diego Simeone and their vociferous supporters, the visitors were patient, slowing down the game’s pace and running down the clock.

After the break, the Spanish champions had more possession. They threatened to score the goal that would have forced extra time.

But they were unable to break down the City defense despite having many decent chances.

After the half, City had only two-goal efforts compared to 12 for Atletico, and goalkeeper Ederson made two critical saves in extra time to guarantee his club through to the last four.

“When Atletico plays as City did tonight, we get a lot of flak. So let’s see what folks have to say today, shall we? “Movistar Plus spoke with captain Koke.

“I’m pleased with my teammates for their efforts; there’s nothing the team can be blamed for. We’ve got our chances, we haven’t taken them, and while we congratulate our opponents, Atleti deserved more.”

The City players admitted that they were not at their best.

Rodri told reporters, “It wasn’t our best game, sure.”

“We were exhausted in the second half due to the calendar; we had a very intense meeting with Liverpool the weekend before. So we were out of legs by the finish.”

In the semi-finals, City will face record 13-time champions Real Madrid, who are looking to capture European club football’s most coveted trophy for the first time.
